Travel, Arrival & Firearms Logistics
Your Destination
You will fly into Port Elizabeth Airport (PLZ), officially known as Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport. JJ or a member of the Induku team will meet you personally at the arrivals hall. All airport transfers to our lodge are included in your package.
Recommended Travel Expert
For the most “worry-free” experience, we highly recommend Patrick Wright (info@pwptravel.com) of Texas. He is a specialist in hunting travel who handles internal flights, meet-and-greet services at Johannesburg (OR Tambo), and permit organisation.
Airlines & Firearm Logistics
When travelling with firearms, choosing the right carrier is vital.
- Top Picks: Delta and United are currently the most reliable options for transporting firearms. South African Airways (SAA) has also resumed flights and accepts firearms.
- Route Note: Delta flights typically land in Johannesburg at night, requiring an overnight stay. United flights with firearms generally land in Cape Town.
- Important Warning: We advise against using Emirates if travelling with firearms, as there are frequent complications with firearm transfers in Dubai.
Will I need to stay overnight in Johannesburg?
Most guests require an overnight stay in Johannesburg before the short morning flight to Port Elizabeth. We recommend City Lodge Hotel, located directly at the airport for maximum convenience.
Rifles & Equipment
Bringing Your Own Rifle
You are more than welcome to bring your own firearm.
- Paperwork: This requires a temporary import permit. The correct paperwork must be submitted at least 60 days before your arrival.
- Assistance: We can recommend experienced agents who specialise in these permits to ensure a seamless customs process.
- US Requirements: You must have a Form 4457 Customs Declaration to leave the U.S. with a firearm.
- South African Requirements: A Temporary Import Permit is mandatory. This must be applied for at least 60 days in advance.
- Documentation: We will provide you with an Official Invitation Letter, which is required to secure your South African permit.
